Social media might not be new, but the reach it has on human resources is. This move is causing companies to redefine the role that HR plays in companies around the world. Aside from that, many HR teams are expressing difficulty on how to work together in a smooth and flexible manner.

As head on down to 2017, we will take a closer look some of the trends that await HR professionals and how they will be able to tackle their jobs for the better.

1. Keeping Employees Happy

Employee turnover has always been a major concern for HR, but in 2017, lowering it will be one of the top priorities for HR teams. Employee engagement and relevant skills training are just some of the key areas that need addressing. After this, employees will become happy and will less likely look for a job elsewhere.

Some of the many ways in which companies can increase employee are for them to have more interaction with the family of their employees, introduce family days or even run events where the entire family can get together.

2. Consumerization

These days more and more people are expecting an experience at work that is a lot like the kind of experience they get when they’re at home. Take the example of Netflix for instance; they know what kind of movies their customers watch and make the appropriate recommendations for their tastes.

With this kind of experience absent at workplaces, it is no wonder employee satisfaction is still very low. If they can work out a way to tackle this, then perhaps there wouldn’t be such a huge staff turnover.

3. Recruiting Is Going To Be Data Driven

Given how it is getting simpler and affordable to access information, experts are looking to make much of the recruiting data driven. Now instead of having to rely on a candidate’s honesty and references, HR will be able to access all of the data online and pretty quickly.

The leaders will, in turn, become more strategic in their hiring decisions as well as become more efficient and be able to understand the current and future markets better.

4. Health And Well-Being

HR have recently shifted their focus to accommodating employees’ work-life balance as importance. Employers are expected to give more focus to the health and well-being of their workers. After all, a healthy worker is a happy one and to maintain that happiness, their health must be accounted for to reduce absence and induce a positive workplace culture.

5. Relationships Instead Of Programs

In the future, HR professionals will work on building relationships rather than using programs on how to understand the business better. A key skill set going into this would be to effectively understand what kind of impact mergers, demergers, and globalization has at workplaces.

6. New Generation Of Management

This year, about 3.6 million company managers are set to retire. Hence, a new breed of managers will be taking their place to run the company. These new managers will mostly comprise of millennials who are willing to try different approaches.

Their tech savviness and open-mindedness are what will bring about a great change for 2017 and later.

7. Keeping Employee Skills Up To Date

In the previous years, companies very often turn to outside sources to get extra training for their present workers and keep their skills up to date so that they can ensure the success of their business. Now in the future, HR personnel will be looking closely at the skills every individual has and find ways to help them turn this into a more cost-effective in-house training.
